December 15, 2020

The Government of Serbia has formed the Working Group for the Security and Protection of Journalists, which will have 19 members. Over the past four years, the security of journalists in Serbia has been addressed by the Permanent Working Group for the Safety of Journalists, which includes representatives of journalists’ associations, the police and the Republic Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The new working group will comprise representatives of the Prime Minister’s Office and several ministries, as well as representatives of the prosecution, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Serbia and journalists’ and media associations, while the Serbian Ombudsman is also a member of the body.

The formation of this working group was announced at the end of November by Prime Minister Ana Brnabić, who pointed out at the time that the safety of journalists represents a red line, adding that the Government of Serbia will not tolerate any threats or the physical endangering of journalists.
