Channels N1 and Nova S suspend programming for 24 hours in protest

Television channels N1 and Nova S suspended their programming for 24 hours in protest, broadcasting only the words “Darkness in Serbia without free media” that appeared on screens in front of a black background.

Alongside an apology to viewers for making such a move, these two television stations that are both owned by United Media explained that the protest was a response to constant pressure, attacks, threats and attempts to destroy the two media companies, but also in response to the fact that the Council of the Regulatory Body for Electronic Media (REM) is delaying its decision over which television station will receive a license to broadcast programmes on the fifth national frequency, without reason and in breach of legally prescribed deadlines.

TV Nova S is among the television stations that applied to receive this national frequency.
