Did you know that the agent selling ad space in the regional edition of the Danish daily “Jyllands-Posten” can show his client the appearance of every ad his company had throughout previous 140 years on his mobile device? Conveying such experiences was precisely the purpose behind a study visit of local media representatives from Serbia to Denmark, organized in April by the Slavko Ćuruvija Foundation, supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark.
The visit was organized as part of the project “Improving Media Freedoms in Serbia”, which has also included the goals of development of economic sustainability and local media in Serbia.
“‘Jyllands-Posten’, founded as a regional media, only to develop to a nationally relevant newspaper throughout its long history, has digitalized its entire archives and is able to demonstrate its commitment to each advertiser. That leaves a powerful impression on their partners,” explains Miroslav Dragin, the Technical Editor of “Kikindske” and one of the participants in the visit.
Apart from Dragin, Vitomir Ognjanović, co-founder and Managing Director of the online portal “Južne vesti”, and Dejan Miladinović, the owner and Editor of Kruševac’s weekly “Grad”, were in a six day visit to Denmark. In the city of Arhus, the home of “Jyllands-Posten”, and Copenhagen, where they were hosted by the desk of another great Danish daily paper “Politiken”, they had a chance to get acquainted with business models of these media and the development of their digital platforms.
“These are not experiences that could be literally applied in Serbia, having in mind that Denmark is a highly developed country. However, this was also a chance to see how newspapers are organized in Denmark and how they have dealt with the global trend of reduction of printed circulation and the challenges in designing digital editions. This was very beneficial since these are universal problems we are dealing with even at small desks such as at “Kikindske”. They have shown us a new way of thinking and something to strive to in future”, says Miroslav Dragin.
