Despite promises made two months ago, the Serbian police have yet to carry out an expert assessment of the security situation of Ana Lalić, executive director of the Independent Journalists’ Association of Vojvodina, and Dinko Gruhonjić, programming director of the same association and a professor at the University of Novi Sad.
Lalić and Gruhonjić have received numerous threats, including death threats, since March, while an organised campaign against them is being led on social media and in pro-government press and media. The campaign also includes the participation of senior government politicians, including President Aleksandar Vučić.
According to the media scene monitoring being carried out by the Association of Independent Electronic Media, “It is absolutely essential for the police to find a mechanism and to guarantee the safety of Ana Lalić, Dinko Gruhonjić and other endangered journalists”.
